Although not strictly a shore foraging bird, Cirl Buntings are now mainly restricted to the south coast of Devon and well worth looking and listening for. Once common, their UK conservation status is now red, but you stand a fair chance of seeing them along the coastal strip between Plymouth and Exeter. It isn't too difficult to get photos of them either, as they sit on high perches stationary singing. On the RSPB website you can hear their call which is like a high-pitched rattle or ratchet.
